23-04-2012

KHARTOUM, (Xinhua): Sudanese army on Sunday said it had repulsed an attack by rebel groups of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-northern sector (SPLM-N) in the South Kordofan State.

“The army has repulsed an attack by the SPLM-N on Taloudy town in South Kordofan State,” said the Sudanese Armed Forces in a statement.

“The SPLM-N on Sunday morning attacked Taloudy town with the aim to achieve a victory to cover up its defeat in Higlieg and raise the morale of its defeated forces,” the statement added, noting that the armed forces have inflicted heavy loss on the rebels, killed tens of them and confiscated great amount of military equipment.

The statement said the armed forces were pursuing the remnants of the SPLM-N and carrying out wide-range combing operations with the aim to expel them from the area.

The South Kordofan State has recently been witnessing armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the SPLM-N.
