Abyei is a Northern Territory: Dinka Ngok

Khartoum – Dinka Ngok chiefs have said Abyei is a northern territory, adding the territory is part of the areas of Southern Kordofan.
Zakaria Atem, Dinka Ngok leading figure, said Abyei is a northern territory, citing referendum conducted in 1931 and 1951 on the basis of which the Dinka tribe agreed to the inclusion of Abyei in the North. He said the Misseiriya and Dinka tribes had been under one native administration headed by Deng Majok, father of Francis Deng, renowned southern leader.
Dinka Ngok are northern citizens” Zakaria Atem, told a workshop yesterday in Khartoum, organized in collaboration with the Dutch Embassy in Khartoum.
Meanwhile, Director General of Angato for Peace (NGO) Abdel Rahman Al-Dagam, said the workshop aims at promoting confidence and achieve peace in Abyei, calling on the civil society organizations to support effort to achieve peace.
It is worth mentioning that both the Misseiriya and Dinka are members of Angato organization which views the SPLM as an obstacle to peaceful co-existence in Abyei.
